To calculate the size of a finished cross-stitch project, divide the stitch count of the pattern by the stitch count per inch of the fabric that you intend to use for the project.
For example, if your Fruhling Designs cross-stitch pattern is 250 x 250 stitches, and if you were to use 16-count Aida cloth for the project, the finished product would be 15.625 inches square:
- 250 stitches / 16 stitches per inch = 15.625 inches
A higher-count fabric will result in a finished product that is slightly smaller, and a lower-count fabric will result in a finished product that is slightly larger. For example:
- 250 stitches / 18 stitches per inch = 13.89 inches
- 250 stitches / 14 stitches per inch = 17.86 inches
Remember to check the size of your Fruhling Designs pattern and to do the math before you start stitching to make sure that you have a large enough section of fabric to accommodate the full pattern!
In any case, be sure to add two or three extra inches on all sides as well, for ease of working and for eventual framing purposes.
As always, happy stitching! 🪡
